Bilíkova Chata is one of the most famous and popular mountain huts in the High Tatras. It is located on Hrebienok, at an altitude of 1,255 m a.s.l., right at the crossroads of hiking trails leading to the Waterfalls of Studený Potok, Rainer’s Hut, and Skalnaté Pleso.
Beginnings of tourism under Hrebienok
The tradition of tourism in this area dates back to the late 19th century, when the first shelters and spa houses were built here. Thanks to its unique location with panoramic views, Hrebienok quickly became the centre of Tatra tourism and a meeting point for climbers, skiers, and nature lovers.
Creation and naming of the hut
After World War II, the building became the property of the Slovak Tourist and Skiers Club. In 1946, it received the name Bilíkova Chata, in honour of Pavol Bilík (1916 – 1944) — an excellent skier and participant in the Slovak National Uprising. His courage and dedication became a symbol of the Tatra spirit, still felt here today.
